Why I love Jesus Let’s focus on why we love Jesus,
- not just for what he has done for us,
- but because he is the most fascinating, wonderful, awesome and lovely person that has ever existed.
Sermon Outline - Why I love Jesus
Colossians 1:15–20
- He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
- For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
- And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
- And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
- For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
- and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
Colossians 2:2–3
- [I pray] that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ,
- in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Luke 22
- And he said unto them, “With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer”
- epithumeo
Luke 7
- and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.
Romans 8:35–39
- Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
- As it is written, “For your sake we encounter death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
- No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us!
- For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Philippians 1
- For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
- If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labour for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell.
- I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.
- But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.
Acts 18
- The Lord said to Paul by a vision in the night, “Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent,
- because I am with you, and no one will assault you to harm you, because I have many people in this city.”
Acts 23
- The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Have courage, for just as you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.”
How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds
John Newton
- How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
in a believer’s ear!
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
and drives away his fear.
- It makes the wounded spirit whole,
and calms the troubled breast;
‘tis manna to the hungry soul,
and to the weary rest. - Dear name! the rock on which I build,
my shield and hiding-place,
my never-failing treasury, filled
with boundless stores of grace.
- Jesus my shepherd, brother, friend,
my prophet, priest and king;
my Lord, my life, my way, my end,
accept the praise I bring.
Colossians 1:15–17
- He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
- For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
- And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Psalm 110
- Your people willingly follow you
on the day of your power
On the mountains around Zion, at sunrise,
yours is the dew of your youth.
