We will look at:
why hospitality is important
and how we do it
- Paul’s list of the marks of a Christian
Romans 12
- Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
- Hospitality shown by widows
1 Timothy 5
- and having a reputation for good works: if she has brought up children, has shown hospitality, has washed the feet of the saints, has cared for the afflicted, and has devoted herself to every good work.
Hebrews 13
- Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
1 Peter 4
- Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.
- Hospitable—a characteristic of an elder
1 Timothy 3:2 & Titus 1:8
- Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach…
- But [an overseer must be] hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.
John 13
- A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
- By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Exodus 24
- Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up,
- and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness.
- And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank.
Mark 1
- And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
- Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her.
- And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.
- That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons.
- And the whole city was gathered together at the door.
- And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.
Revelation 3
- Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Revelation 19
- Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.
- Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready;
- it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
- And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”
Matthew 26
- I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
Acts 16
- One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.
- And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” And she prevailed upon us.
Acts 16
- And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.
- And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family.
- Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.
Proverbs 15
- Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it.
