Daniel 3:16-24

Bumo Bakanisi

— Whose eyes do you use to see and what do you see?

Daniel 3:16-24

  1. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter.
  2. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king.
  3. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Daniel 3:16-24 cont’d

  1. Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual
  2. and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace.
  3. So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace.

Daniel 3:16-24 cont’d

  1. The king’s command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego,
  2. and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace.
  3. Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?”
    They replied, “Certainly, O king.”

2 Corinthians 5:18-20

Tim Windsor

2 Corinthians 5:18-20

  1. All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
  2. that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
  3. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

Summary

  • God loves restoring relationships.
  • He has stopped counting my sin and has reconciled me to himself.
  • This frees me to do the same to others.

Philippians 3:13-14

  1. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
  2. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 12:1-3

  1. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
  2. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
  3. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
