Romans 5 ESV
- Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
- More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
- and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
- and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Four positive statements:
- we have been justified by faith
- we have peace with God
- we have access by faith to grace
- we rejoice in the hope of God’s glory
Romans 5:3–4
“More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings,
knowing that suffering produces endurance,
and endurance produces character,
and character produces hope.”
Romans 5:5
“and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
Psalm 32:6–7, 10–11
Therefore let everyone who is godly
offer prayer to you
at a time you may be found;
surely in the rush of great waters,
they shall not reach him.
You are a hiding place for me;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with shouts of deliverance…
Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
but steadfast love surrounds
the one who trusts in the Lord.
Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,
and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
