  1. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

  4. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.
  5. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

Terminology?

All Christians have the Spirit

Summary

Two Wrong Views:

  1. Since the Scripture clearly teaches that everyone who is a member of the body of Christ is “baptized in the Spirit”, there is nothing more.
  2. “Baptism with the Spirit” is a second experience after conversion
    • There are two kinds of Christians, those who have been and those who have not
    • (Traditional Pentecostals say you must speak in tongues)

The Bible teaches:

Sequence of events

  1. Born/Baptized in the Spirit makes us a Christian
  2. Baptized in water as a public testimony
  3. Receiving & being filled (does not happen automatically)
    • At Pentecost 1 and 3 happened at the same time
    • We need to desire and pursue more of the Spirit
    • There are a wide range of manifestations, but always empowerment
  4. It is not all or nothing—we can all have more
