New Creation and the Spirit

  • Rom 1:4 who was appointed the Son-of-God-in-power according to the Holy Spirit by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.
  • Rom 8:11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Colossians 2 & 3

  1. Having been buried with him in baptism, you also have been raised with him through your faith in the power of God who raised him from the dead.
  2. Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
  3. Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth,
  4. for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
  5. When Christ (who is your life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him.

Romans 6:5–14

Two Differences in the New

  1. We don’t need to live as if we were slaves to sin. We are free now that we are under grace!
  2. Jesus now lives in us through the Spirit

Galatians 2

  1. For through the law I died to the law so that I may live to God.
  2. I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So the life I now live in the body, I live because of the faithfulness of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Romans 7:6

“But now we have been released from the law,
because we have died to what controlled us,
so that we may serve in the new life of the Spirit
and not under the old written code.”
