Acts 8:5-13, 8:26-31, 10:17-20, 14:1-3, 28:7-10
- Acts 8:5-13
- Philip went down to the main city of Samaria and began proclaiming the Christ to them.
- The crowds were paying attention with one mind to what Philip said, as they heard and saw the miraculous signs he was performing.
- For unclean spirits, crying with loud shrieks, were coming out of many who were possessed, and many paralyzed and lame people were healed.
- So there was great joy in that city.
- Now in that city was a man named Simon, who had been practicing magic and amazing the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great.
- All the people, from the least to the greatest, paid close attention to him, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called ‘Great.’ “
- And they paid close attention to him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic.
- But when they believed Philip as he was proclaiming the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they began to be baptized, both men and women.
- Even Simon himself believed, and after he was baptized, he stayed close to Philip constantly, and when he saw the signs and great miracles that were occurring, he was amazed.
- Acts 8:26-31
- Then an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Get up and go south on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is a desert road.)
- So he got up and went. There he met an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasury. He had come to Jerusalem to worship,
- and was returning home, sitting in his chariot, reading the prophet Isaiah.
- Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.”
- So Philip ran up to it and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. He asked him, “Do you understand what you’re reading?”
- The man replied, “How in the world can I, unless someone guides me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
- Acts 10:17-20
- Now while Peter was puzzling over what the vision he had seen could signify, the men sent by Cornelius had learned where Simon’s house was and approached the gate.
- They called out to ask if Simon, known as Peter, was staying there as a guest.
- While Peter was still thinking seriously about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Look! Three men are looking for you.
- But get up, go down, and accompany them without hesitation, because I have sent them.”
- Acts 14:1-3
- The same thing happened in Iconium when Paul and Barnabas went into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a large group of both Jews and Greeks believed.
- But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.
- So they stayed there for a considerable time, speaking out courageously for the Lord, who testified to the message of his grace, granting miraculous signs and wonders to be performed through their hands.
- Acts 28:7-10
- Now in the region around that place were fields belonging to the chief official of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us hospitably as guests for three days.
- The father of Publius lay sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and after praying, placed his hands on him and healed him.
- After this had happened, many of the people on the island who were sick also came and were healed.
- They also bestowed many honors, and when we were preparing to sail, they gave us all the supplies we needed.
- Romans 15:17-19
- So I boast in Christ Jesus about the things that pertain to God.
- For I will not dare to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in order to bring about the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed,
- in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem even as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
- 1 Thessalonians 1:5
- ...in that our gospel did not come to you merely in words, but in power and in the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction
