1. Holiness is not the same as moral purity

Leviticus 11:32

  1. And anything on which any of them falls when they are dead shall be unclean,
    whether it is an article of wood or a garment or a skin or a sack,
    any article that is used for any purpose.
    It must be put into water,
    and it shall be unclean until the evening;
    then it shall be clean.

Leviticus 10:1,2

  1. Then Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu,
    each took his incense burner and lit it,
    put incense in it, and presented “foreign” fire before the LORD,
    which he had not commanded them to do.
  2. So fire went out from the presence of the LORD
    and consumed them so that they died before the LORD.

Exodus 19:12,13

  1. You must set boundaries for the people all around, saying,
    ‘Take heed to yourselves not to go up on the mountain nor touch its edge.
    Whoever touches the mountain will surely be put to death!
  2. No hand must touch him—but he will surely be stoned or shot through
    whether a beast or a human being; he must not live.’
    When the ram’s horn sounds a long blast they may go up on the mountain.

Leviticus 11:44,45

Exodus 15

Numbers 20

4. Holiness in the New Covenant?

1Pe 2:5 you yourselves, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood and to offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
